Abstract: Neutrons are an invaluable tool when it comes to non-destructive material analysis. As uncharged particles that interact directly with atomic nuclei on the angstrom scale, neutrons deliver high penetrability and isotope sensitivity. However, the low flux and polychromatic nature of neutron sources hinder neutron imaging techniques. In tandem with recent advancements in neutron diffractive optics, this work demonstrates the effective separation of the diverging and converging diffraction orders of a Fresnel zone plate, with a first of its kind neutron Off-Axis Fresnel Zone Plate (OAZP). The OAZP overcomes disturbances due to transmitted neutrons and allows for in situ investigation of multiple foci and magnifications states of sample images, establishing new opportunities for material analysis, structured neutron techniques, and fundamental physics.
